Driver dies after being pinned against wall by Metro bus

Posted: Updated:

A Metro bus driver has died after a bus pinned her against a concrete retaining wall Monday afternoon.

Metro say a female driver had just exited her bus at the White Oak Shopping Center in Silver Spring when the bus began to move. She attempted to hit the brake by reaching through the driver's window, but was struck by the bus and pinned against the wall.

The driver has been identified as 47-year-old Thomasine Maria Smith of Laurel, Md.

Smith was taken to a local trauma center where she later died from her injuries.

Metro says the bus was not in service and there were no passengers on the bus.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
