Craving some Chicago theater? Check out Jake Hamilton`s 2014 picks

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago is one great theater town, with over 80 local venues constantly pushing the envelope in live theater. FOX 32 previews some of the most highly-anticipated stage events of 2014.

Yes, we all know that the big theaters here in Chicago attract the biggest shows on stage, but I want to focus on the great, local theater productions that I'm psyched about in 2014.

First off, Theater Wit's production of "Our Country's Good" kicks off Jan. 9 and runs through February.

The play focuses on Australia's first penal colony and their attempt to rehearse for an upcoming theatrical production. It shines light on the relationships between the inmates and shows that art can be found in the most unlikely places.

Next up: You know it, you love it - American Theater Company is bringing "Hair" to the small stage from April 25 - June 30.

If you're ready to re-live that "Age of Aquarius," this small local theater will present it in a much more intimate way than a big theater would.

Finally, Greenstone Theater Company is giving us a production of "Mr. Shaw Goes to Hollywood," starting on Jan. 10, running through Feb. 16.

It's the incredible true story of one of the most famous lunches in history, attended by Clark Gable, William Randolph Hearst and George Bernard Shaw, which took place on the MGM Studios lot. Let me tell you, it's worthy of a stage production.
