Police believe alcohol was a factor in an accident where an SUV crashed into an auto collision repair business.
The GMC Yukon crashed into the Lone Star Collision repair in the 6800 block of Colleyville Blvd. of Colleyville on Wednesday after hitting a sedan.
Colleyville police believe alcohol and speed were a factor in the accident.
The driver of the Yukon was taken into custody by Colleyville Police. That person's name has not yet been released, but sources say that the suspect has prior arrests for DWI and at least one DWI conviction.
A grandfather who was driving the sedan that was hit was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries along with his granddaughter, who was in the passenger seat.
"Had somebody been in the backseat, they would not have survived," said Captain Robert Hinton with the Colleyville Police. "There was very little left of the car."
Lapier and her husband received a call from police around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
"It was unbelievable," said the business' owner, Jennifer Lapier. "I just couldn't believe what I saw. I've never seen anything like that before."
Lapier says the back room that the SUV hit was used for storage, and no cars were damaged by the crash.
Business was back open Thursday, but slow, given the gaping hole. Lapier says she never would have imagined her collision repair shop would be the scene of an accident.
"It is ironic that they did crash into a building that was a collision center," said Lapier. "Why not a donut shop?"
