Police: Man accused of stealing makeup in Mesquite prompted chase

Posted: Updated:

Mesquite Police say that a man accused of stealing makeup prompted a chase Friday morning.

The manager of the Albertson's grocery store in the 1500 block of South Belt Line told police that the suspect had concealed multiple items of makeup and then fled the store in a dark SUV.

Officers located the suspect's vehicle, and tried to stop the man. However, the suspect refused to pull over, and 40-minute chase ensued through parts of Mesquite and southeast Dallas.

Spike strips were deployed by police twice, and the second time, slowed down the suspect enough for him to give up at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

At that time, the driver, 31-year-old Edgar Rodriguez, surrendered and was taken into custody by police. He was charged with theft—two or more previous convictions and evading apprehension with a vehicle.
