Man dies in Fort Worth apartment fire

Posted: Updated:

A man died following a fire in his Fort Worth apartment that likely started by food left cooking on a stove.

The fire occurred overnight at the Springbrook Apartments in the 6500 block of Normandy.

Firefighters found Darrell Chambers, 50, unresponsive when they arrived and made their way inside. The man was taken out, given CPR and taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly and no other units were affected.

A cause of death has not yet been determined and it's not known if the apartment had a working smoke detector.

The official cause of the fire remains under investigation, but will likely be ruled accidental.
