A man accused of stabbing his pregnant girlfriend died Friday, confirmed an official with the Watagua Police Department.
The suspect was shot by an officer while he was in the process of stabbing the woman, said police.
The shooting happened in the 6400 block of Patsy Lane.
Officers responded to a disturbance call at the home, and discovered the suspect allegedly stabbing his girlfriend, who was lying in the driveway.
A 27-year-old police officer fired at him, hitting him in the head.
"The suspect was actively stabbing a female victim," said Sgt. Jason Babcock with the Watauga Police Department.
Another woman at the scene was also stabbed.
The victims were taken to a hospital, where the pregnant woman remains. She and her unborn child are said to be doing well and police say it looks like doctors will be able to save her arm, which had severe stab wounds.
Police sources say the girlfriend was trying to leave the suspect, and they believe the second woman was stabbed when she tried to stop the attack.
The friend of the girlfriend has since been released from the hospital.
Police say the officer who shot the suspect was faced with a tough decision, and did just what he was trained to do.
"In order to protect another life, police officers often have to take a deadly force situation and take immediate action to stop that threat," said Babcock.
Neighbors say this is not something residents are used to seeing.
"It's real quiet out here, and to hear something like this is just kind of, it makes you think twice, you know," said neighbor Al Latu.
