Top 5 Super Bowl commercial finalist needs your votes

Posted: Updated:

While some people tune in for the game, others tune in for the elaborate commercials and one Phoenix filmmaker's commercial has made it to the top five as part of a contest for Doritos.

If he wins, millions will get to see his commercial, but he needs your votes to make that happen.

Ryan Thomas Andersen is one step closer to fulfilling a big dream.

"I was just speechless.  I just started acting like an idiot after that," he said.

The hilarious commercial he made as part of a contest for Doritos has been chosen as one of the top five. The winner gets a million bucks and the commercial will air during the Super Bowl.

"Every year, it's like this holy grail that people try to go for and this year we got lucky and got in the top five," he said.

For Andersen, the commercial was a family affair -- using his parents central Phoenix home for the location -- and casting his 6-year-old son, Gavin -- even using the family dog.

"I was kicking a box with my megaphone and he said, I think it's working Jimmy," said Gavin.

The idea for the commercial came after Andersen and his son finished watching "Back to the Future."

"From there, that's when other ideas kind of sparked and I was like, oh this could be a fun commercial and it was just non-stop from there and it was a whirlwind in my head," said Ryan.

For Andersen -- who has loved film for years -- is hoping America will vote for him.

"It's funny because at first, everyone gets excited about the money and I was excited about the money, but it's more about what's going to come after it, but what I really want to do is buy a house for my son and I."

You can vote until the January 29th at  Andersen's video is also on YouTube:
