Fire investigators in Grand Prairie are looking for the cause of an early morning house fire that sent several people to the hospital.
It happened around 4 a.m. in the 1800 block of NW Dallas Street, near the President George Bush Turnpike and Main Street.
Smoke, heavy flames and strong winds made it tough for firefighters to battle the fire in the single-story house. They had to go on the defensive and fight the fire from outside.
All seven people who were home at the time were able to escape, but two adults and two children had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. They are expected to recover.
No firefighters were hurt.
The cold weather did create some unique challenges for firefighters. Some of their equipment like their radios and mouthpieces froze and had to be thawed out.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The home will likely be a total loss.
