Teen hit while running across Fort Worth freeway

FORT WORTH, Texas -

A high school senior was killed while crossing a busy Fort Worth freeway Tuesday morning.

Fort Worth police said 18-year-old William Brawley and two female friends tried to run across West Loop 820 near Clifford Street after their vehicle broke down.

Brawley was hit after making it across three of the four lanes of traffic, police said.

He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Brawley was a student at Brewer High School in White Settlement ISD. Tuesday's accident occurred not too far from campus, but classes were not in session.

Friends said Brawley was quiet, but always positive and friendly.

"He would never leave me in a situation where I was by myself I was by myself or  where I really needed help he gave me that extra help," said Clifton Spencer.

Brawley's two friends were treated for minor injuries. Counselors will be available for students at Brewer HS on Wednesday.

The driver involved did stop to help and police do not expect to press charges.

Police believe the teens' car either ran out of gas or broke down.
