Texas sets winter power usage record Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

Frigid temperatures pushed demand for power to a new winter record on Tuesday.

Electricity consumption peaked at 57,277 megawatts on Tuesday morning, which beat the previous record set in Feb. 2011 of 57,265 megawatts.

ERCO, the agency that monitors the Texas electric grid, says there is enough power and customers should not worry about the potential for rolling blackouts.

The agency asked for customers to reduce their electricity usage because of high demand on Monday morning.
