Bridgeport water leak fixed, residents asked to conserve water

Posted: Updated:

The City of Bridgeport's water leak is fixed and the people who live there will soon have water again, after being without it for two days.

According to the City of Bridgeport's facebook page, it will take several hours Saturday to fill the water lines and the water towers. So, people are being asked to conserve water Saturday. City leaders ask that people only use water to bathe and shower, not to do laundry or run the dishwasher until water has time to get through the lines.

Residents are asked to continue to boil water for drinking, cooking and making ice until further notice.

The Decatur High School gym will be open for Bridgeport residents to shower from 8 am - 12 pm. Saturday. You must supply your own towels and toiletries.

A major leak near the Bridgeport water plant left the city without water until late Thursday night.

The city posted on its website Friday that the water line blew again and repairs would take an undetermined amount of time.

A boil water order does remain in effect for the town of nearly 6,000 people. People who need water can get bottled water supplies at the Bridgeport Police Department.
