I-30 reopens at Lake Ray Hubbard after all day closure due to pileup

GARLAND, Texas -

Alcohol and the dense fog may have contributed to a pileup that closed Interstate 30 over Lake Ray Hubbard most of the day Friday.

Six 18-wheelers and eight other vehicles were involved in the accident that happened around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

All lanes of traffic between the Dalrock and Ridge road exits were shut down for most of the day. Two eastbound lanes on I-30 reopened about 2 p.m. at the lake and all lanes of traffic reopened shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday.

Police said Anthony Sosa, 23, has been arrested and charged with intoxication assault in connection with the wreck, but it remains unclear if Sosa caused the massive pile-up or not.

At least three people were taken to the hospital. Some had serious injuries such as a broken leg, but all are expected to recover.

Crews spent hours cleaning up spilled fuel and making repairs to the concrete median in an effort to reopen all lanes of traffic.

Commuters were encouraged to seek an alternate route such as Highway 66 through Rowlett.

Additionally, a second crash involving an 18-wheeler forced the closure of I-30 near FM 548 in Royse City midday Friday.

Traffic there was re-routed to the frontage roads while crews clean up debris and make median repairs.
