WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

One person is dead following a plane crash near the Oakland County International Airport in Waterford Township Friday night. The pilot has been identified as Andrew Demos, 32, of Waterford.

Demos died when his twin-engine Cessna 310 airplane crashed at the Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area in Waterford Township. He was on final approach to the Oakland County International Airport when the airplane crashed into a wooded area between the teach and boat landing area. No one else was on board.

The plane is owned by Royal Air, an air freight and charter company based out of the airport. Demos is listed as a Charter Pilot for the company on his LinkedIn page.

The plane was returning from Atlanta. The airport was open but under instrument flight rules (IFR) at the time of the crash just before 8:00 p.m. Friday night - meaning that pilots must use aircraft instruments to take-off and land.

The NTSB is currently investigating.
