CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Bond was set at $800,000 Saturday for a second man charged with the August stabbing death of a man in the South Side Grand Boulevard.

Jason Smith, 25, was arrested Thursday during a traffic stop in the 600 block of West Garfield Boulevard and charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing, police said.

A friend found 24-year-old Lemont L. Larkins stabbed multiple times in an alley in the 4000 block of South Calumet Avenue at 12:40 a.m. on Aug. 30, authorities said at the time.

Larkins, of the 4000 block of South Indiana Avenue, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Bond for Smith was set at $800,000 Saturday, the Cook County Sheriff's office said.

Timothy Barber, 40, of the 200 block of East 135th Place, was arrested about a month after the stabbing and charged with second-degree murder after being identified as the stabber, police said after his arrest.

He was also ordered held in lieu of $800,000 bond, prosecutors said at the time.

Smith's next court date is scheduled for Jan. 13, while Barber is due in court Jan. 29.
