NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A teenager was shot when gunfire erupted outside a New Haven high school as about 2,000 people were leaving a boys' basketball game.
City police say the 14-year-old freshman was shot in the hand and a bullet grazed his leg Monday night outside Hillhouse High School after a game against Career High School. The teen was brought to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police arrested two adults seen running from the scene and found a handgun nearby. The men weren't charged in the shooting. Police are looking for the shooter.
Nine police officers and several school resource officers had been stationed at the game.
Officials say security will be increased at city high schools Tuesday, and Hillhouse freshmen and junior varsity basketball games scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled.
