J.C. Penny announced Wednesday it will be closing 33 underperforming stores, which will in turn cut about 2,000 positions across the country.
The move is in an effort to save money and focus on company stores with high potential growth opportunities.
The closings are expected to save about $65 million this year, and final closings will likely be finished by early May.
None of the store closings are in Texas.
J.C. Penney estimates it will take in about $26 million in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2013, and around $17 million in future periods.
