Doctors, rescue group search for dog's owner after it was hit by car

Doctors and the animal rescue group DAWG are hoping to find the owner of a dog was struck by a car near Eight Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue. The dog now has a severe spinal cord injury.

"We assume hit by a car based on the fact that she was nonambulatory and also has some skin lesions that suggest a traumatic injury," says veterinarian Dr. Adam Moeser.

The dog was not wearing a collar at the time of the accident. The Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) rushed the dog to the vet, and has now named the white, middle-aged lab mix Keyla.

"We would like to know ourselves who owns this dog. This dog deserves, obviously, to have its owners at its bedside especially right now with the condition," says Shera Osier from DAWG. The dog is being treated at the Animal Neurology and MRI Center in Commerce Twp.
