Stolen urn returned to Marietta widow

Posted: Updated:
MARIETTA, Ga. -

A widow is thankful that someone did the right thing and returned a stolen urn that contained the ashes of her late husband.

As FOX 5 reported on Tuesday,
Lauren Waldrip lost her 26-year-old husband, Brad, suddenly in October. She lost him again last week when someone broke into her Marietta home and stole several items – including the box that contained Brad's ashes.

After Lauren shared her heartache on FOX 5, Marietta police say they received a call that someone had found the urn behind a business not far from Lauren's home.

"It was like a weight was lifted off me. I almost cried. I was so relieved to have it back," Waldrip said.

The screws on the bottom had been stripped and the seams of the box are coming apart, but the ashes were not touched.

"I can get a new urn. I'm not attached to this box, I'm attached to what's inside of it," Waldrip said. "My husband's love, our memories, our relationship isn't in this box, but what little I have left of him is."

Though she doesn't know who found the ashes or where they were discovered, Lauren said it doesn't matter. She's just glad to have that part of her husband back.
