Joangel Concepcion is a Dallas-based general assignment reporter.
She believes her responsibility as a journalist is to be an advocate of the viewer — by telling stories about real challenges and successes.
Before her arrival, she was a reporter/photographer for WHEC News10NBC in Rochester, NY.
One of her most memorable stories so far, is reporting live from Newtown, Connecticut in the days following the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre.
A week after the tragedy, she covered the Christmas Eve ambush where two West Webster NY firefighters were shot and killed while responding to a fire. The team coverage won a national Edward R. Murrow award for Best Breaking News Coverage.
Joangel is no stranger to Texas. She began her career in McAllen where she worked as a general assignment reporter/photographer at an NBC affiliate. She reported directly from our borders, covering the threat of spillover violence from Mexico. Aside from reporting about the war on drugs, cartel violence and immigration issues, Joangel also reported about several concerns that affected the Latino community in South Texas.
Joangel graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia. She reported and anchored for the award winning student-run newsroom "Temple Update." She also interned at NBC 10 Philadelphia.
When Joangel is not out covering stories, you can find her cooking or exploring the town! Her family is from the Dominican Republic and she was born and raised in Miami, FL.
