There's nothing worse than trying to dodge and weave through the rain drops on a rainy day in New York City. But a new umbrella sharing pilot may make getting stuck in the rain a little easier. Who really wants to lug an umbrella around all day? So here's a solution: umbrella sharing.

A lunar eclipse known as a red moon or "blood moon" was visible in the Tristate area on Tuesday.  It started early in the morning and was the first of four such lunar eclipses over the next year and a half. The moon turns red during this type of eclipse because the sunlight is refracted, similar to the way it is bent during a sunset.

A forecast for the 2014 hurricane season predicts much-less than normal tropical activity this year but stronger storms forming closer to the United States.  “The very warm water off of the Eastern Seaboard is a huge problem," chief forecaster Joe Bastardi said.

The polar vortex that gripped much of the country is gone, but don't get too comfortable - another round of frigid air is expected to arrive next week across the northern U.S., from the Dakotas eastward to New England.

It'll be cold, but not the life-threatening cold of last week, when subzero temperatures enveloped much of the country and contributed to at least a dozen deaths.

Bob McMahon of the National Weather Service says temperatures will start falling over the weekend into Monday. He says highs in parts of the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan will be in the single digits above or below zero.

The cold air will then move eastward into New England, where temperatures will be about 10 degrees cooler than normal through next weekend.
