DETROIT (WJBK) -

Two people responsible for a 4-year-old boy who was fatally shot by another child now face criminal charges. They're accused of involuntary manslaughter, child abuse and other charges for leaving the children alone in a room with a loaded rifle. A vigil for the boy was held Sunday night.

With candles, T-shirts and heavy hearts, more than 50 people gathered in front of the house where Jamel Witcher was shot and killed. We talked to the young boy's father who was not home when the shooting took place.

Sunday morning, Patricia Johnson and Robert Richardson were arraigned on felony charges. Prosecutor's say the 4-year-old's cousin shot him in the chest with a rifle. It was loaded and left in a room where they were playing.

Family members say Jamel's death should serve as a wake up call for gun owners who don't secure their weapons.

Sources tell Fox 2 the gun belonged to the boy's grandfather. Police have a warrant out for Harvey Witcher, he's also facing felony charges including involuntary manslaughter. Funeral arrangements have not yet been set but donations are being accepted through Triumph Church on E. Grand Blvd.
