CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Three pedestrians were seriously wounded Monday night after they were struck by a vehicle near the Illinois Institute of Technology campus in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side.

About 5:50 p.m., the three people, a man and two women, were crossing the street at a crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle traveling southbound in the 3400 block of South State Street, police said. The crosswalk is near the Illinois Institute of Technology campus.

The 32-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were taken in serious-to-critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.

Another 19-year-old woman was also taken in serious-to-critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Roccasalva said.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, police said. It did not appear as if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
