Police Search For Evidence In Northern Liberties Murder

Northern Liberties -

New developments in the murder of a young woman in Northern Liberties where she was killed walking with her mother to her car. It was all over a $14 purse.

Police executed a search warrant, looking for evidence. Fox 29's Dave Kinchen is live at police headquarters with the latest on the investigation.

Detectives left the Fern Rock house on the 5600 block of North Camac Street after several hours looking for a murder weapon, acting on tips but finding nothing. Neighbors startled by the process.

It's the home of two persons of interest held for questioning in the shooting death of 26-year-old Amber Long of South Philly.

A shattered Stephanie Long was with her daughter Sunday night when investigators say two crooks followed them down the 900 block of north Front Street in Northern Liberties.

"It was very random," said Homicide Captain James Clark. "The mother and daughter, I don't know where they were coming from; they just got off a train, walking towards their car. I believe these males saw them thought they were easy targets."

They do fit the description of the murderers, we have them in homicide now and we're speaking to them," Clark added. "We do have two persons of interest in this murder upstairs in homicide now. We're speaking with. We do not have enough to call them suspects or charge them."

Long says the city lost a top notch Philadelphia university graduate who pursued her passion in architecture.

"She loved the city, she loved life, she loved her job," Long said.

Investigators are now checking surveillance cameras in the area of the shooting for clues while Stephanie Long prepares to say a sudden good bye to her only child.

"They shot her in the hear t and they shot to kill. There's just no two ways about it, over a frickin' purse," Long said.
