Dad rescues young children from burning Ft. Worth home

Posted: Updated:
FORT WORTH, Texas -

A Fort Worth father ran back into his burning home to save two of his children.

The fire started early Tuesday morning in a house in the 1200 block of NW 15th Street. When firefighters arrived the home was filled with fire and smoke.

A man, woman and several children escaped, but the man ran back into the house after he realized two boys were still inside. Seven children were inside when the fire started.

Family members said Eduardo Hernandez, 3, and Jesus Hernandez, 4, were the ones still inside when the father ran back in.

"We don't typically encourage people to go back. Who can tell a father what to do to save his kids?" said Richard Harrison, a battalion chief for the Fort Worth Fire Department.

Cook Children's Hospital said Eduardo is in serious condition and Jesus is in fair condition. The father is believed to have suffered smoke inhalation during the rescue.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it's believed it started in the kitchen.
