Suspect injured following officer-involved shooting in Maricopa

MARICOPA, Ariz. -

A man was hospitalized in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting following a car chase Tuesday afternoon.

Maricopa Police say they received a check welfare call from a woman around 2:15 p.m., who stated that her husband threatened suicide after receiving some disturbing news.

She said he had a weapon when he drove away from their home.

In an attempt to locate call was issued to police and they found the vehicle.  That's when the suspect fled from officers and a short pursuit ensued.

Stop sticks were laid out and the car came to a stop near Honeycutt Road and Parker Road.  According to MPD, something happened between the officer and the suspect to the point of the officer feeling threatened.

The officer shot the suspect in the upper chest and he was transported to Maricopa Medical Center.  His name has not been released.

The Maricopa Police officer was not injured and is talking to investigators.
