For many, the trip to the video store is one that they haven't made in a while. But one local video rental chain has managed to not only survive, but thrive.
Glenview-based Family Video has managed to succeed despite the presence of Netflix and Redbox, and they told FOX 32 News how they're doing it!
The video store: The lost art of weekends, a forgotten way of life for movies, an abandoned wasteland of entertainment. Or is it?
In a world where chains like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video are crumbling, nearly 28,000 video stores have dwindled to just over 6,000 and Redbox and Netflix are king, one local video rental chain stands alone.
Family Video is not only surviving, but thriving beyond belief, having just experienced their best year ever.
Kevin Bowser, the manager of the LaGrange Family Video, says it comes down to the old school nostalgia of video stores that people miss, and want to pass on to the next generation. But Bowser says that Family Video isn't in denial about the possibility of DVDs disappearing forever.
For now, Family Video survives – a flickering light in a land of darkness. A light that has the power to make us laugh, cry and fall in love… So that we can rewind and do it all over again.
