The community surrounding Eastern Michigan University has been hit hard by violent crime lately. Ypsilanti police say an EMU student was pistol whipped and robbed Tuesday night on Congress Street, near Summit Street. The victim says four men stole his wallet and then tried to steal his car but it wouldn't start.

The university and Ypsilanti police are working to make the community around campus safer. They're expanding patrol boundaries, hiring more officers and have even formed a special task force to take a closer look at preventing crime near campus.

If you know anything about this crime contact the Ypsilanti Police Department at (734) 483-9510.
