A repeat arson offender will spend the rest of his life in prison for intentionally setting a house on fire, killing a woman inside.
Cliff Douglas Parker, 55, went on a drinking binge the night of Sept. 20, 2011 and lit a couch on fire inside 67-year-old Betty Roberts' home.
Roberts was a widow of a Fort Worth Police Officer.
She died less than two months later from smoke and fire debris inhalation. She was allowing Parker and two others to stay with her temporarily.
Firefighters say when they arrived, Parker was smoking a cigarette on the porch.
He then tried pushing an officer back inside while police were pulling Roberts out.
In 1997, documents show he forced his 12-year-old daughter to light their house on fire.
