Firefighters contain five-alarm blaze at Northeast Dallas townhome complex

Posted: Updated:

A massive five-alarm fire lit up the evening sky around rush hour Wednesday night, where a townhome complex in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas went up in flames.

Firefighters currently have the fire contained are still working to put out a few hot spots.

The fire consumed several units at the Oak Trail Villas, near Abrams Road and Forest Lane.

Firefighters say downed power lines and low visibility made containing the fire particularly challenging, especially when embers from the blaze sparked other grassfires. Those grassfires were quickly extinguished.

Most of the townhomes are vacant. An occupant did live in a corner unit, but she was away during the fire, and firefighters rescued her dog.

No residents were injured, but a firefighter sustained a minor burn injury. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but is expected to be OK.
