One person was killed Monday in a head-on collision on Central Expressway.
Around 4 a.m. police in Richardson tried to stop an SUV that was going the wrong way in the northbound lanes of the freeway.
The driver clipped one vehicle and kept going. He didn't stop until he slammed into a car just north of Hall Street in Dallas.
The victim, identified as Jose Portillo, had to be cut from his car. He did not survive.
The wrong-way driver, 35-year-old Sidney Pineda, was treated at the hospital and then taken to jail. He is facing intoxication manslaughter charges.
The freeway was closed for a few hours while officers investigated.
