Strong winds cut some power in Dallas area

Posted: Updated:

DALLAS (AP) - Strong winds have downed some power lines and cut electricity to parts of North Texas.

Power provider Oncor on Monday reported more than 2,000 homes and businesses without electricity, mainly in the Dallas area. A utility spokesman says the windy conditions blew in overnight and crews worked to restore electricity.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the Dallas-Fort Worth area until midday Monday. Gusts of nearly 40 mph were recorded before dawn along with a cold front that dropped temperatures into the 30s.

Meanwhile, colder weather could reach Southeast Texas by Tuesday. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for the Houston area from late Monday through Tuesday night.
