Truck Carrying 3,000 Chickens Overturns In China

Posted: Updated:

Something went a-fowl on a Chinese highway when a truck carrying 3,000 chickens overturned on Saturday in Guizhou Province.

900 chickens "flew the coop," spilling onto the road and surrounding grass. They covered the area, including the highway, clucking, squawking and, as the joke goes, even crossing the road.

The birds challenged authorities to a game of chicken as police and farmers tried to wrangle the ones that went astray, grabbing the game by the neck or feet and stuffing them back into their cages.

The runaway chickens caused police to close down a section of the highway. One driver says he swerved after he tried to brake while driving in dense fog.

No chickens were harmed in the accident, although a few feathers may have been ruffled.
