A teenager pleaded
guilty in Montague County Court on Monday to criminally negligent homicide in
the shooting death of his best friend.
As a result, Michael Underwood, 18, was sentenced to five years' probation.
If he violates that
probation, he will automatically spend two years in jail.
Underwood and his
friend Nathan Maki were hunting near Bowie over Labor Day weekend when police
say Underwood accidentally shot Maki with a rifle.
The sheriff says beer
cans were found at the camp site.
Underwood will undergo
a gun safety class and finish high school.
At the request of his
mother, he also has to give a speech at a gun safety class.
