State of emergency declared in DeKalb County

Posted: Updated:

Interim DeKalb County CEO Lee May declared a state of emergency for the county on Tuesday after snow covered the area.

What began as a slog on county streets in the early afternoon was a full-blown parking lot by night.

When the snow quit falling, it was the ice that made for a dangerous drive.

Conditions got so bad that some drivers decided it was safer to park their car and head home on foot.

Some Good Samaritans stopped to lend a hand, others hopped on bikes for a quick way through the traffic trouble.

Jeff Ashmen said he sat on I-285 for over two hours, only moving about half a mile in that time.
