Frisco Police said a mother confessed to killing her 10-year-old son.
Frisco officers conducted a welfare check Wednesday evening at a home in the 15000 block of Mountain View Lane. There, they found Arnav Dhawan, 10, dead in a bathtub in the home.
His mother, 38-year-old Pallavi Dhawan, was taken into custody and has been charged with murder.
Police said the boy's father, Sumeet, had been out of town on business for three weeks. When he got home, he couldn't find his wife or son.
He became more concerned after reading emails that his son had been absent from school, and called police.
After police had arrived, Pallavi showed up at the home and asked police if she could briefly speak to her husband alone.
"Mr. Dhawan became noticeably upset," said Sgt. Brad Merritt with the Frisco PD. "Officers were called over by Mr. Dhawan, who pointed toward the bedroom door. Officers rushed toward the door and found it to be locked. They then asked Mrs. Dhawan if the child was in the room and she nodded her head, yes."
Officers went inside and found the child's body. The boy, who was the couple's only child, was found dead in a bathtub with a cloth wrapped around his neck and plastic bags around him.
There was no water found in the tub.
Police declined to give an idea of how long the boy had been dead and didn't speculate on the cause of death, but they did say that they don't believe he drowned. A medical examiner's report is pending.
"Officers asked her if she killed her child, and Mrs Dhawan nodded her head, yes," said Merritt.
Pallavi's attorney, David Finn, says that she did not nod in agreement. Finn says Sumeet was standing there when she was asked, and he says it did not happen.
"Any statement that my client nodded or confirmed that she was responsible for their child's death...not so fast," said Finn.
Sumeet said there was no trouble in the family, and in the last few months they went on a Disney vacation.
Frisco Independent School District leaders confirmed the child who passed away was a fifth grade student at Isbell Elementary School. Extra counselors were sent to that school.
Dhawan is currently being held in the Frisco City Jail on a murder charge, with bond set at $50,000.
Officials with the Frisco PD said they had never been called to the home before Wednesday.
