NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Law enforcement responded to several locations near MetLife Stadium in New Jersey as well as the Manhattan office of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani because of letters containing suspicious substances, which turned out to be harmless.

The hotels are located in Carlstadt, Lyndhurst, Rutherford, Hasbrouck Heights, and East Rutherford. Authorities, including the State Police and FBI responded.

SkyFoxHD was over the EconoLodge in Carlstadt where police could be seen entering and leaving the hotel at about 1:45 p.m. Chief O'Conner of Lyndhurst police said that the envelopes are "not a health hazard," Fox 5's Ti-Hua Chang reported. Apparently at leastone of the envelopes contained baking soda.

Giuliani's office is at 1251 6th Avenue, where the NYPD's Emergency Services Unit and the Department of Environmental Protection investigated and determined the powder was nontoxic, police said.

All eight employees who were in the mailroom at Giuliani's office have been checked out and decontaminated, authorities said. The workers show no signs of complications or injuries.

MetLife Stadium is the site of Super Bowl 48 taking place on Sunday. Approximately 80,000 people are expected to attend the game.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is holding its monthly board meeting, two days after it heard from a panel on what it needs to do to improve its accountability and efficiency and restore public trust.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could rescind a $1-a-year lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel. The agency's chief of real estate and development told a committee Wednesday that it should change a deal made in 2012. Published reports have alleged that former Port Authority chairman David Samson voted to approve the lease even though his law firm did business with New Jersey Transit, which operates the park-and-ride lot.

As he tried to assist in the delivery of a newborn, Manchester Officer Joseph Fastige noticed the umbilical cord was wrapped around the child’s neck. He was able to get his fingers around the cord and safely unwrapped it. That quick-thinking - and perhaps life-saving - move was one of several Manchester officers made when they delivered a newborn child last week.
