Brothers Build 18 Foot Snowman

Posted: Updated:

An 18-foot tall snowman towers over a neighborhood just a couple blocks west of Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indianapolis.

Alan Burke and his brother Eric Burke have built numerous giant snowmen, but this one is their best creation.

The brothers used a trio of igloos that were built for the body, solar-powered yard lights for coat buttons and eyes, a street cone for the nose, rakes for arms and a bucket for a hat.

All of the snowman's parts were items that had belonged to their father, who recently passed away.

"Bigger and bigger as long as speedway allows me to make him bigger. I don't know if there's an ordinance or what, but we're going to try and go as big as we can. My goal was 20 feet but as you can tell we got two feet away," Alan Burke said.

"I think it's kind of crazy but it's neat. Everybody in the neighborhood loves it and comes around and likes to take pictures and check it out," said his wife. "He's a great father. I mean he loves being out here doing this trying to get the kids into it. He just loves doing this type of thing: go big or go home, he says."

The brothers are about 100 feet short of beating the Guinness World Record. A 122-foot, 1-inch snow-woman was built by residents in Bethel, Maine back in February of 2008.
