Deion Sanders angrily confronts Prime Prep cofounder in leaked recording

Posted: Updated:

An anonymous audio recording has surfaced in which Sanders can be heard in an angry confrontation with his cofounder and former business partner.

In the recording, posting online, Deion Sanders and former business partner DL Wallace discuss money -- an $80,000 difference in their salaries.

"Your point was, and I want to start right here, the point is, how do we get you more money?" said Wallace in the recording.

"I don't know who you can look in the eye, in this room and say, ‘I'm gonna give myself 120 Gs and give Prime 40," said Sanders.

In another moment in the recording, Sanders threatens Wallace with violence.

"From man to man, I've always had your back," said Sanders. "I feel like throwing this chair and breaking your da** neck right now, and I don't even use profanity, but I'm gonna let it ride because I'm p***** off ‘cause I love kids."

Sanders is also heard explaining how their two-campus charter school came to be in the first place.

"…Senators, political leaders that you hooked me up with, that you put me down with. That's how we got the school! You're talking about a n**** sitting up there that was an athlete and didn't graduate, another n**** sitting up there, saying he's the president, ain't graduated nothing…and we got a school. Think about that, man!"

Past drama involving Prime Prep has included Sanders' firing after claims of assaulting an administrator. He was quickly rehired, but fired again.

Co-founder Wallace was also ousted.

Now there's a new superintendent in place, but also a state investigation into possible misuse of funds and a D.A.'s office criminal investigation involving hundreds of allegedly stolen school computers.

FOX4 was able to reach Sanders' about the leaked audio while he is in New York for the Super Bowl.

Sanders said that meeting took place at the Dallas campus inside a field house last summer. While five minutes of it was leaked, he says the meeting lasted more than two hours, and there were 14 people present.

"I was angry that, while I was dealing with my divorce, they basically brought in all these under-qualified folks who have no interest in these kids," he said in a statement. "…I was furious, this guy was here stabbing me in the back and trying to destroy my name. I regret using the language I did, but I stand behind everything I said."

FOX4 has not been able to reach Wallace regarding the leaked recording.
