SOLD: Giant middle finger statue erected to scorn ex-wife, funds donated to charity

The owner of the infamous middle finger sculpture in his Orchard Lake backyard has sold the statue and donated the profits to a homeless charity in Detroit.

Alan Markovitz has said he erected the 12-foot-tall sculpture back in 2013 to get back at his ex-wife, who had just moved in with her new lover in the house next door to his. The installation of the sculpture even included a spotlight to keep the message illuminated at all hours.

Markovitz sold it for $5,000. He donated the money to Heart 2 Hart Detroit, a nonprofit that hand delivers essential supplies to homeless people in Detroit. The nonprofit was started by Larry Oleinick who has known Markovitz for nearly 50 years.

Markovitz owns three strip clubs in Detroit and recently wrote a book about his entrepreneurship, which is reportedly being turned into a TV reality series on Cinemax that will premier in the spring.
