Hundreds of Sunday flights at DFW Airport are cancelled.
According to DFW International Airport representatives, the forecast of a wintry mix of freezing rain and ice is impacting the airport. Airlines serving DFW have announced the cancellation of 280 scheduled departures for Sunday, representing about 30% of the schedule for the day. Several arrivals are cancelled as well.
You are advised to check your flight status before going to the airport. You can find flight information online at www.dfwairport.com in the Flight Tracker section of the homepage, or you can contact your airline directly.
DFW Airport workers have been pre-treating the airfield and roads. They started pre-treating the airfield pavement at 4:15 AM with liquid de-icing material being applied to runways, taxiways and other airfield surfaces. De-icing facilities at DFW are aligned, and the airlines are prepared to de-ice their aircraft, according to an airport representative.
Drivers are advised to use caution, as overpasses and elevated surfaces could be slick.
The Texas Department of Transportation will be treating the highways around the airport as needed and DFW crews were pre-treating the roads on the Airport grounds Sunday morning, according to DFW Airport representatives.
