Extra TXDOT workers are on the job Sunday because of the winter storm moving through north Texas.
"We actually started last night (Saturday) pre-treating the roads with some of the liquid salt-based anti-icer. We started doing that to bridges and overpasses in Collin and Denton Counties," Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson, Ryan LaFontaine said.
He said workers were brought in Sunday morning to begin the 24-hour shifts, as they also monitored the weather.
With the storm falling on Super Bowl Sunday, the timing couldn't be worse, LaFontaine said.
He asked that drivers stay off the road as much as possible.
The timing is tricky because you can't wait until the rain arrives because it will wash all of the treatment product off and you can't do it too early because it will dry up, LaFontaine said.
The City of Dallas Department of Street Services will also begin sanding operations at noon Sunday. There will be about 30 sanding trucks and 70 personnel monitoring bridges, overpasses and inclines throughout the city.
You can call (800) 452-9292 for current road information. For non-emergency roadside assistance, drivers can call the Texas Department of Public Safety at (800) 525-5555.
