Man accused of murder in TCU student's death

Posted: Updated:

Fort Worth police arrested a suspect Wednesday in connection to the death of a Texas Christian University student.

Police say 21-year-old David Hidalgo was arrested for the murder of 23-year-old Stewart Trese.

Police found Trese dead Tuesday morning at the Grandmarc Apartments in the 2900 block of West Bowie Street.

He had trauma to his body, and investigators say an altercation took place before his death.

The case is still under investigation.

People who know Trese say they can't understand why anyone would hurt him.

"Just to think someone could take someone's life who was that innocent and an all-around good person…" said Lauren Bagwell, who was friends with the victim.

"Just gentle…so smart," said Dorothy Head, a former school nurse who knew Trese.

Trese was a senior at TCU studying marketing.

TCU released the following statement Tuesday:

"TCU is saddened by the loss of our student. The University cooperated with authorities throughout the investigation. TCU kept the campus informed as information became available. It is important to note that the suspect and student were known acquaintances and the suspect has been identified and located by Fort Worth Police Department."
