Corbett Declares State of Emergency

HARRISBURG, Pa. -

At 9:20.m., Governor Corbett gave a ten minute press conference about the State of Emergency affecting Pennsylvania. In his press conference, he highlighted the efforts by officials and power companies to restore the state back to normal.

He says it may take a few days to restore power. He has asked President Obama to support the emergency declaration. National Guard has been activated for assistance.

PECO has about about 500,000 customers without power.

Corbett's administration wants to remind everyone to be careful tonight and tomorrow morning.

Corbett also shared some tips for weather safety:

  • Don't call 911 when you have power outage, call the power companies.
  • Be careful when you run your gas or stove.
  • Also, do not run a generator inside.
  • If you leave your home to go to a shelter, turn your electricity off to avoid a hazard.
  • Copy down important numbers in case you need them.
