Detroit firefighters battle multiple fires at large warehouse

Detroit firefighters battled a fire on Farnsworth Street Wednesday morning. Three different fires consumed different parts of the warehouse, which has 12 separate buildings.

One of those buildings is Palmer Promotion Products, a cabinet making company stocked with wood, lacquer, cleaners and styrofoam - all flammable materials that can emit toxic fumes when burned.

Therefore, a Hazmat team was called to the scene, but deemed the area safe. However, firefighters pulled out of the building were never allowed back in.

"Anytime you have aerial operation you have a better overall view of the situation and you are able to put water above the fire," says Capt. Alvin Goldsmith from the Detroit Fire Department.

He says crews did experience a few water pressure issues, but they were fixed.

Crews battled the fire for more than four hours. A relief crew did show up but had trouble getting to the scene because of the snow and unplowed streets.

Arson investigators are looking into the fire.
