This sign at a Taylor bar doesn't mean what you think it does

TAYLOR, Mich. (WJBK) -

Employees at Beer Belly's Bar in Taylor have been receiving threatening phone calls after a video began circulating the Internet that suggests the bar does not allow "colored" customers.

A sign hangs outside the bar that reads "NO COLORS ALLOWED." Some understood the sign to mean no black people were allowed inside, but the owner explains why that is the incorrect interpretation of the sign.

The sign actually refers to bikers not being allowed to wear their club colors on the property.

"I think it's ridiculous because we're in an area with a lot of mixed races here, and we have a lot of black people that come in here. A lot of regulars are black, and I think it's ridiculous that people think that we're like that around here," says Aaron Stevens. He co-owns the bar with his father.

DeWight Thomas, who is black, says he is a regular at the bar and is there about three times a week. "I can vouch that Beer Belly's is a friendly place. I know the owner, I know his son very well. They treat me very good here at Beer Belly's, and I invite all my friends here and we've never had a problem," he tells FOX 2.

While a FOX 2 crew was at the bar, Stevens received multiple phone calls inquiring about the sign seen on the video. Stevens says the video has been shared over three thousand times on Facebook, and he even received calls from California and Washington, D.C.

Stevens just wants everyone to know, "Everybody's always welcome at Beer Belly's Bar - it's a bar for everyone."
