DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A veteran DeKalb County police officer was shot as she responded to a burglary call Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place just after 4:30 p.m. at 5671 Cape Cod Lane near Salem Road, south of I-20.

Police sources tell FOX 5 the officer was responding to a burglary-in-progress call at a home when two of three suspects gunned a car out of the house's garage.

DeKalb County Police Chief James Conroy told FOX 5's Portia Bruner at the scene the suspects started firing shot, hitting the female officer in her ankle.

Medics transported the unidentified officer who is a veteran of more than 20 years with the department to Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital with a non-life threatening wound.

Chief Conroy said the officer was alert and stable after the shooting.

DeKalb Police officers took the first two suspects into custody shortly after the shooting.

Video from Sky Fox 5 showed a third suspect being taken into custody, shortly after 5:20 p.m.
