Mother of 3 teens struck by car asks for changes

Posted: Updated:

One week ago, three teenagers were walking on Westwood Ave in southwest Atlanta when a car struck then and sped off. Two of the girls were treated at the hospital and one is still receiving physical therapy.

Verfrandae Newberry says her daughter Meriah who injured her leg is now afraid to walk to the bus stop. She is asking the city to add speed bumps and sidewalks to make it safer for all the neighborhoods kids.

"Even in the morning time when I see the children walking to school, they're walking in the yards because the cars are coming so fast. That was my main concern. That's what I let them know that I need. We need something done. Not just me, but the entire neighborhood," said Newberry.

Councilman C.T. Martin tells FOX 5 News that he's asked officials to research accident in the neighborhood and will look at if speed bumps are a good solution.
