PHOENIX (AP) - Lawyers for Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne and an aide accused of violating campaign finance laws spent the morning grilling an FBI agent who was the lead investigator in the government's probe of Horne.

FBI agent Brian Grehoski acknowledged under questioning Tuesday there is no direct evidence that Horne illegally conspired with aide Kathleen Winn. But under questioning from a deputy Yavapai County attorney pursuing the civil case he ticked off a series of reasons why the agency investigated the case. Prosecutors acknowledge the case is circumstantial.

Horne may testify later Tuesday and Winn also is expected to take the stand.

Both deny illegally coordinating spending while she ran an independent committee that ran ads attacking Horne's opponent in the 2010 election.
