Attorney General: Former inmates should be allowed to vote

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Attorney General Eric Holder said once inmates have done their time, they should be allowed to vote.

Holder said right now, 11 states restrict voting rights for former inmates.

That means almost six million Americans cannot vote because they're convicted felons.

Holder said that's not fair.

He is urging those 11 states to repeal the ban saying, "We have seen that maintaining family connections, developing job skills, and fostering community engagement can reduce the likelihood of arrest. We know that restoring basic rights and encouraging inclusion in all aspects of society increase the likelihood of successful reintegration."
