Ex-Arlington officer gets year in jail for sharing information with dealer

Posted: Updated:

A former Arlington police officer fired for giving police information to a steroid dealer will spend one year and one day in prison.

Thomas Kantzos, who has worked for the Arlington Police Department for the past 17 years, was fired in June 2013 and charged with unlawfully providing law enforcement sensitive information by exceeding authorized access to a protected computer.

Kantzos was illegally purchasing anabolic steroids from a dealer who feared he was under police surveillance. The dealer asked Kantzos to run a license plate number on a car. Kantzos did so, pretending to investigate a stolen vehicle.

Kantzos will serve his sentence in a federal prison. He pleaded guilty in October.
